The golden rule
When ancient opinions and rules of life are taken away, the loss cannot possibly be estimated. From that moment, we have no compass to govern us, nor can we know distinctly to what port to steer.
LAWS OF THE BOX
- Don’t Be Late. If you are . . . expect Burpees.
- Get your own weights to lift. When you are done, put them away. The number one violation of weight room etiquette is not putting your weights away. If you violate this rule, expect burpees.
- Go Heavy, OR Go Home. The only way to get stronger is to increase resistance (weight). At all times in the weight room, strive to put more weight on the barbell and move it faster.
- Work Hard, Or Get Your Workout Somewhere Else. Don’t drag anyone else down with you!
- Don’t Be A Jerk. There is always someone out there bigger, faster, and stronger than you.
- Don’t Expect Immediate Results. There is no shortcut to being strong or getting fit. “You can’t push the river” , says Mark Twight. Relish the work. Enjoy the sweat. Welcome the pain.
- Don’t Worry About How You Look. Worry about how you perform.
- We Are Your Coaches. Don’t expect us to get your weights for you, put them away, hold your hand, get you a tissue or call your Momma. Remember you, the athlete, are not the coach. Encouragement is expected…coaching other athletes is not accepted.
- Never Say, “I CAN’T”. This is a four-letter cuss word in our gym. Self-pity accomplishes nothing and will result in Burpees.
- YOU Are Responsible For YOUR Own Fitness, Health & Safety. Our workouts are tough. The weight is heavy! If you need to pull back, or aren’t comfortable, tell the coach, and do so. This is being smart, not weak!
- Leave Your Personal/Job/Family Problems At The Door. The gym is our sanctuary fromall that crap. Make it yours.
- Don’t Make Us Ask You For Money. Monthly dues are due on the first. Individual workout dues have to be paid immediately before or after the workout. Our Heat, rent and electricity don’t cover themselves.
- Treat Equipment with Respect, But Don’t Baby It. Plates, barbells, kettlebells, dumbbells, medicine balls, etc. are meant to be picked up, dropped, thrown, etc. Respect the equipment by using it heavy and hard, but don’t abuse it.
- We Are Not Politically Correct. We cuss. Fart, yell, grunt, scream, sweat, bleed, etc. You will too!
- LAUGH!!! Come on, we all look funny doing this stuff!
ADDITIONAL ATHLETE INFORMATION

Athletes will make payments in full on the 1st of every month. Athletes’ payments will be automatically charged to the athlete’s credit card at the beginning of each month. There will be a $25 fee for all returned items.
There are no contracts at Oakland County CrossFit, however, you must contact Andrea or Matt via email by the 25th of the month to have your payment cancelled for the next month.
There will be no refunds on any membership dues.
2. Guest Policy
Oakland County CrossFit and it’s coaches are committed to the safety of our athletes and any new athletes who would like to come see what we do. To do this we ask that you first try to bring your guest during one of the designated “Bring A Guest to CrossFit” classes.
If these days / times don’t seem to be work please see Andrea or Matt to set up a time. It is very important to us that inexperienced CrossFit Athletes do not jump into a class. It takes away from the level of service that we can provide to each of our current athletes.
3. Age Requirements
The minimum age to participate in any of our CrossFit classes is 12-years old, unless otherwise approved by Matt or Andrea.
Kids as young as 6 can participate in the Youth Olympic Lifting Program.
4. Lost & Found
Lost & Found items will be located in a labeled bin in the Athlete Room. Oakland County CrossFit and their coaches are not responsible for lost or stolen items. Items in lost and found will be donated to charity after 30 days.
Valuable items will be locked up, so please see Andrea or Matt to retrieve them.
5. Athlete Room
Athletes are asked to respect the Athlete Room by picking up trash and storing items in a neat manner. Oakland County CrossFit is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items.
6. Towel Service
Athletes are asked to respect Oakland County CrossFit’s willingness to provide our athletes with workout towels by returning all used towels to the dirty towel bins located in each of the bathrooms.
7. Right To Refuse Service
Our clientele is sacred to us, and your training is hard because it gets results. If someone is a whiner, negative or generally a bad apple, we reserve the right to send you to our competitors and deny service. People who come here are motivated and fired up to become they can be. The people who train with us constantly earn the right to be here.
